BOUTIQUE WHITENING

10% Carbamide Peroxide (Night Treatment)

Designed for overnight use, this option allows the whitening gel to work gently while you sleep.
Kits are available with 1, 2, 3, or 4 syringes and can be ordered with or without custom whitening trays.

Our 10% carbamide formula is ideal for patients with sensitive teeth. It works more gradually than the 16% strength, but still delivers a beautifully bright result—perfect for those who prefer a gentler approach.

Treatment Duration: Usually 10–14 days
How It Works: The gel is applied using custom-made whitening trays worn overnight. If you need new trays, these can be made for you at the practice.

HOW WHITENING WORKS

Teeth whitening is a widely used cosmetic treatment that lifts stains and brightens the natural colour of your smile. Knowing how the process works can help you choose the whitening option that’s right for you.

WHAT’S IN THE WHITENING GEL?

Whitening products typically use either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. These ingredients break down into oxygen molecules, which pass through the porous surface layer of your teeth and reach the areas where deeper staining sits.

THE BRIGHTENING REACTION

When the released oxygen molecules meet the discoloured particles within the tooth, a reaction called oxidation takes place. This breaks apart the bonds that hold those stained molecules together, gradually lightening them and revealing a whiter, fresher-looking smile.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does teeth whitening cause discomfort or sensitivity?

Some patients experience mild sensitivity during or after teeth whitening, particularly to cold temperatures. This is usually temporary and settles within a few days. We offer whitening options designed for sensitive teeth and can advise on ways to minimise discomfort. We also provide a desensitising toothpaste, which we recommend using 2 weeks before whitening begins and throughout the whitening process, to help reduce sensitivity and keep you comfortable.

How long do teeth whitening results last?

Teeth whitening results can last 6 months to 2 years, depending on diet, lifestyle, and oral hygiene habits. Drinking tea, coffee, red wine, or smoking may cause staining to return sooner. Occasional top-up treatments help maintain results.

What should I avoid to maintain whiter teeth after whitening?

To preserve your results, it’s best to limit staining foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, curry, and berries—especially in the first 48 hours after whitening. Smoking can also significantly reduce how long whitening lasts.

Do I need a hygiene appointment before teeth whitening?

Yes, a hygiene appointment is usually recommended before whitening. Removing plaque and surface staining allows the whitening gel to work more evenly and effectively, helping you achieve the best possible result.

Is good oral health required before starting teeth whitening?

Yes. Teeth and gums should be healthy before whitening begins. Any untreated decay, gum disease, or dental infections need to be addressed first to ensure whitening is safe and comfortable.

Do I need a dental assessment before whitening my teeth?

Yes. A dental assessment is required before professional whitening. This allows us to check your oral health, discuss your goals, and ensure whitening is suitable for you. It’s also a legal requirement in the UK for whitening to be prescribed by a dentist.

Is professional teeth whitening safe?

When provided or supervised by a dental professional, teeth whitening is safe and effective. The products used are clinically tested and applied in controlled concentrations to protect your teeth and gums.

Can I whiten my teeth using over-the-counter products?

Over-the-counter whitening products are widely available, but they are often less effective and may not be suitable for everyone. Some can cause sensitivity or uneven results. Professional whitening offers safer, more predictable outcomes tailored to your teeth.
