Every smile is different, and so is every journey to feeling confident. That’s why we offer both discreet fixed braces and Invisalign® clear aligners—so you can choose what suits you best.

SIMPLE, SUPPORTIVE, AND STRAIGHTFORWARD

Your orthodontic journey with us begins with a relaxed consultation with our team, led by specialist Dr Milly Miles-Hobbs. We’ll chat through what you’d like to change about your smile, walk you through your options, and make sure you feel comfortable and confident about the next steps.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR SMILE GOALS

We’ll talk through your concerns, understand your goals, and recommend the treatment options best suited to you.

From fixed or discreet braces, we’ll create a personalised plan — with the option to enhance your results through treatments like whitening or bonding, if appropriate.

PROVEN & RELIABLE

When several teeth are missing in a row, implant-supported bridges offer a stable, long-term solution. Unlike traditional bridges, they don’t rely on neighbouring teeth for support, helping to preserve the health of your natural teeth.

A TRUSTED APPROACH

Fixed braces are a proven option for achieving reliable, long-lasting results, including in more complex cases.

With discreet brackets and carefully adjusted wires, teeth are gently guided into their ideal position over time — delivering results you can feel confident in.

CROWDING

When there isn’t enough space for teeth to sit comfortably, cleaning can become difficult. Orthodontic treatment helps align the teeth and create the space needed for better oral health.

OVERBITE

A pronounced overlap of the upper teeth can lead to wear, jaw strain, and discomfort. Treatment can improve both function and balance.

UNDERBITE

When the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth, chewing and speech may be affected. Orthodontics can realign the bite for improved comfort and function.

OPEN BITE

If the upper and lower teeth don’t meet, eating and speech can be impacted. Specialist orthodontic care can correct this and restore proper contact.

SPACING

Gaps between teeth can affect both appearance and function. Orthodontic treatment can gently close spaces for a more even smile.

CROSSBITE

When upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth, it can lead to uneven wear and gum problems. Orthodontics helps correct the bite and protect long-term dental health.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is specialist orthodontic treatment suitable for children?

Yes, orthodontic treatment can be suitable for children, sometimes starting as early as age 9. The most appropriate time to begin treatment varies from child to child and depends on the specific orthodontic concerns present.

As a general guideline, it’s recommended that children have an orthodontic assessment around the age of 9. This allows a specialist orthodontist to identify any developing issues early, even if treatment isn’t needed straight away.

Early orthodontic treatment can help guide jaw growth and tooth development, which may improve long-term results and, in some cases, reduce overall treatment time. That said, many orthodontic concerns are best treated during adolescence, once all permanent teeth have erupted and jaw growth is complete.

Ultimately, the timing of treatment is decided on an individual basis, following a thorough assessment by a specialist orthodontist.

How long do fixed braces stay on?

The length of time fixed braces are worn varies depending on the complexity of the case and the degree of tooth misalignment.

On average, treatment with fixed braces lasts between 1 and 2 years. Some cases may take slightly longer or shorter. Attending regular appointments and following your orthodontist’s advice is essential to ensure treatment progresses as planned and achieves the best possible outcome.

Do fixed braces hurt?

It’s common to experience some discomfort when fixed braces are first fitted or after adjustments. This happens because the braces apply gentle pressure to move the teeth into their correct positions.

The level of discomfort differs from person to person. Some people notice only mild soreness, while others may feel more noticeable tenderness. Factors such as the complexity of treatment, individual pain tolerance, and how closely instructions are followed can all influence this.

Any discomfort usually settles within a few days and can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relief, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. We’ll always provide personalised advice to help keep you as comfortable as possible during treatment.

How do fixed braces work?

Fixed braces use a combination of brackets, wires, and elastic bands to apply steady, controlled pressure that gradually moves teeth into their correct positions.

Small metal or ceramic brackets are bonded to each tooth using a dental adhesive. A wire is then threaded through the brackets and secured with elastic bands or metal ties. The wire applies pressure to the brackets, which transfers force to the teeth.

As treatment progresses, the orthodontist adjusts or replaces the wire to maintain the correct level of pressure. Elastics or metal ties may also be used to move specific teeth or correct bite issues. Over time, the surrounding bone reshapes, allowing the teeth to move safely into alignment.

Treatment typically takes between 18 months and 2 years, though this can vary depending on the individual case.

Do fixed braces damage your teeth?

When fitted and cared for properly, fixed braces do not damage your teeth. In fact, by correcting alignment and bite issues, they can contribute to better long-term oral health.

However, problems can arise if braces are not cleaned thoroughly. Plaque build-up around brackets and wires can increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In rare cases, excessive force or poor maintenance may affect tooth enamel.

Choosing a qualified specialist orthodontist and following oral hygiene advice carefully helps minimise these risks. We’ll give you clear guidance on how to look after your braces and protect your teeth throughout treatment.

Do fixed braces increase the risk of tooth decay?

Fixed braces don’t cause tooth decay directly, but they can make teeth more difficult to clean. If oral hygiene isn’t maintained properly, this can increase the risk of decay and gum problems.

Food particles and plaque can easily collect around brackets and wires, making thorough cleaning essential. To reduce the risk, it’s important to brush and floss carefully, use fluoride toothpaste, and attend regular dental check-ups.

We may also recommend additional cleaning aids, such as interdental brushes or water flossers, to help you clean effectively around your braces.

Are fixed braces better than Invisalign®?

Whether fixed braces or Invisalign® is the better option depends on several factors, including the complexity of the orthodontic issue, lifestyle, personal preference, and budget.

Fixed braces use brackets and wires and are often the most effective choice for complex cases, such as severe crowding, crossbites, or open bites. They don’t rely on patient compliance and are generally more cost-effective.

Invisalign® uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth. They are discreet, easier to remove for eating and cleaning, and often require fewer appointments. However, they rely on consistent wear to be effective.

The best option is always determined after a professional assessment. Your orthodontist will recommend the most suitable treatment based on your individual needs and goals.
